Revalidation of Factory Stuffing Permission (FSP) – Further instructions

Club Day Celebrations 2015

Customs Recreation Club Day 2015 was celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety at Custom House. Noted film director, actor and script-writer Srinivasan was the Chief Guest for the function. Shri Sreenivasan gave away prizes for various competitions held at Custom House. Variety Entertainment programmes by Staff and Children marked the occassion. Bill of Entry message format has been revised due to budgetary changes. RES users are requested to download the new message format from the ICEGATE website or request your RES vendor to upgrade RES package and file Bill of Entry in new format only. Till the package is ready the Trade is advised to utilize the facility available at Service Centre for filling Bill of Entry.

Smuggling of Gold in liquid form

Smuggling of Gold in liquid form :Officers of Air Intelligence Unit, Air Customs, Cochin International Airport, Nedumbassery intercepted a passenger who arrived by Air India Express Flight No. IX 434 from Dubai to Cochin at 1.15 am at 06.03.2014 . He was intercepted at the exit gate of the Arrival Hall while he was hurriedly passing through the ‘Green Channel’ on suspicion that he is carrying contraband goods/gold. Detailed examination of baggage has resulted in the recovery of 4 plastic containers carrying yellow coloured fluid kept within condoms inside the containers. On further detailed examination of the contents of the said four containers, it was found to contain highly corrosive fluid with powdered gold dissolved in it. Total weight of fluid with dissolved gold amounts to 5.345 Kgs. Efforts are on to retrieve the gold and quantify the same. Further investigations are in progress. This is the first time that liquid gold is seized from a passenger at Cochin International Airport and it appears to be a unique and innovative method adopted by the smugglers to smuggle in gold. The seizure was effected by a team of officers led by Shri S.A.S.Navaz, Deputy Commissioner of Customs (AIU) & Shri Abhilash K. Sreenivasan, Dy. Commissioner. The others members of the team are Supdts. V.C. Ajayakumar, K.G. Giresh, S. Anilbabu, T. Pavithran and Inspectors Rahiyanath Beevi, K. Rajakumar and K. Sathish.

Seizure 2kg gold from waffle maker

Officers of AIU on 24.02.2014 seized two gold bars wieighing 1 Kg each worth Rs 60,94,476/-from a pax arrived by flight AK 1203 from Kula Lumpur.The gold bars were concealed in a waffle maker which is similar to a sandwich maker

The Officers of Air Intelligence Unit,Cochin had effected a seizure of Gold Sheets (4 Nos.) weighing 945.37 grams concealed inside the wooden base of a flower vase in the checked in baggage of the pax. who arrived at Cochin from Sharjah by Jet Airways Flight on 12.02.2014.


International Customs Day was celebrated on the 27th of January 2013 by Custom House, Cochin, in association with Commissionerate of Customs ( Preventive ), Kerala. International Customs Day is celebrated all over the world under the aegis of World Customs Organisation ( WCO ) with its head quarter at Brussels, to commemorate the first session of this international body formed for the co-operation and standardization of Customs practices among its member countries. Today, the WCO represents 179 Customs administrations across the globe that collectively process approximately 98% of world trade. As the global centre of Customs expertise, the WCO is the only international organization with competence in Customs matters and can rightly call itself the voice of the international Customs community. This year, the WCO has dedicated International Customs Day with the theme- ‘Communication: Sharing information for better co-operation’. Customs work in Cochin Port has been in existence for over one and a half centuries. Over a period of 150 years, the centre of activity gradually shifted from Fort Cochin to Willingdon Island to Vallarpadom. Cochin is just 11 nautical miles from the main sea route connecting east with west and is thus a key location on the International maritime map. Cochin is a regular Port of Call for many-a Luxury Cruise. As far as international passenger traffic is concerned, Cochin International Airport is fourth in volume in the country . The Chief Guest of the occasion, Sri. P K Hormis Tharakan, IPS ( Retd.), Former Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, GOI, emphasized the significance of coordination between different agencies and sharing information among them. He gave the briefing about origin of ports in Kerala and India. He also projected the importance of Customs in coastal security and prominent role it plays in the security of the Nation. Dr. K N Raghavan, IRS, Commissioner of Customs welcomed the gathering and Sri. S Subramanian, IRS, Chief Commmissioner of Customs, Central Excise & Service tax, Kerala Zone delivered the Presidential Address and Sri. P.R.Ravikumar, IRS, D.G. of Income Tax, Kochi, Sri. G. Krishnakumar, Dy. Chairman, Cochin Port Trust, Sri. Prasad K. Panicker, Executive Director, Bharat Petrolem Corporation Ltd, Kochi also spoke on the occasion. The highlight of the function was honoring the Importers / Exporters, Steamer agents and Customs Brokers . For the first time the cargo handling Airlines were also honored by the Department. Smt. Elsi Thomas, IRS, Additional Commissioner delivered the vote of thanks. The official function was followed by an orchestra led by eminent play back singer Shri.Madhu Balakrishnan.

Seizure of gold at Airport on 22.01.2014

One Kg of Gold was seized by Preventive Commissionerate on 22.01.2014 from a passenger arrived from Dubai by Indigo Flight. The gold was not standard Gold bar wearing marks and numbers, but melted and re made in to block which was cleverly concealed in a voltage converter. The concealment appeared to have been mechanically done in a factory.

Abhilash Tomy visited Custom House on 09.01.2014

Lieutenant Commander Abhilash Tomy of Indian Navy who wrote a new chapter in India’s rich maritime history by becoming the first Indian to circumnavigate the Earth under sails solo, nonstop and unassisted had visited Custom House on 09.01.2014. He shared his experiences of the 151 day trip in his sailing vessel, Mhadei with the officers and staff of the Custom House. He said he had not sighted human beings for a period of 130 days and experienced wind speeds of 70 knots and 10 meter waves. His message to the audience was that there is enough in this world for everybody’s need but not for everybody’s greed. It’s all yours but less is always more…..

20 kgs of Gold seizure at Airport

20 gold bars totally weighing 20Kgs and having approximate value of Rs.5.8 Crores were seized from two burka clad lady passengers who arrived at Cochin International Airport by Emirates Flight EK 532. The gold bars were found concealed in specially stitched Jackets with pouches worn on the person and burka was worn top of it. This seizure is the largest in the recent history of out right smuggling cases detected in the Country.

Seizure of 5 kgs of gold

5 Kgs of gold bars were seized by Air Intelligence Unit on 28.08.2013 from Jet Airways Flight arrived from Sharjha.The gold bars were seized while rummaging the Aircraft by AIU. The gold bars were concealed by a Pax under the passenger seat of Aircraft.

Seizure of Silver weighing 38.25 Kgs valued Rs 16,50,269/- at ACC

The Customs at ACC, Cochin has made a seizure of Silver weighing 38.25 Kgs valued Rs 16,50,269/- One passenger, who arrived from Dubai by flight No. EK 532 dated 10.07.13, residing at Moovattupuzha had sent his unaccompanied Baggage to Air Cargo Complex and filed a baggage declaration for the clearance of one package imported by flight No. EK 532 dated 19.07.13. The passenger mis-declared the goods as 'Nickel Crom materials' to mislead the customs officers and did not declare any value for it. When the package was opened and examined by the Customs 0fficers on 20.7.2013, it was found to contain white metal pieces of various shapes and sizes, and that on suspicion that the metal pieces contain silver, representative samples were drawn and forwarded for chemical examination at Customs Laboratory. The examination reports from the customs Laboratory, confirmed samples as silver with a purity 99.3 to 99.6%. The contents of the package was weighed and found to be 38.25Kgs (Net) and 40.025Kgs (Gross) the value of the said silver is Rs. 16,50,269.The goods were seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, on the reasonable belief that they are liable for confiscation under the provisions of the said Act. This is for the first time, ever since, such a major seizure of valuable contraband seized from Air Cargo Complex. The pax is otherwise also not eligible for import of silver through unaccompanied baggage for the offence committed. The pax was arrested today.

Gold Bars weighing four (4) Kilograms valued at Rs.1,04,37,660/- was seized at Cochin International Airport by the Officers of the Preventive Commissionerate on 22/07/2013.The Gold bars were seized from two passengers arrived by Flight No. EK 0530 on 22/07/2013 at around 9.30 a.m.

Seizure of 2 Kgs of Gold

Two gold bars weighing 2 kgs were seized from a Passenger who arrived at Cochin International Airport from Dubai on 18.07.2013 by Air Intelligence Unit. The Passenger smuggled in the gold bars concealed in carbon paper inside his socks. In July, 9 kgs of gold bars worth Rs.2.52 crore were seized at the airport by AIU.

Seizure of 2 Kgs of Gold

Two gold bars weighing 1kg each, valued at Rs.55 lakhs was seized from a passenger arrived from Dubai by Air Intelligence Unit on 16.07.2013.The gold bars were concealed by the Pax in his ankle caps. The passenger was arrested.

Three kilograms of gold was seized from two passengers arrived from Dubai by Air Intelligence Unit on 11.07.2013. Both passengers were arrested.

ICES implemented at ICTT

ICES 1.5 is launched at ICTT , Vallarpadom from 21.05.2013. Gate Module is implemented at the ICTT, Vallarpadom, for efficient and fast movement of containers to and from ICTT. Along with the gate module, the Department is introducing the facility for granting “Let Export Order” from ICTT Vallarpadom, for house stuffed Containers, on 24x7 basis as a trade facilitation measure and for speedy clearance of export consignments Please refer Trade Facility No 16/2013

The Most Reverend Desmond Tutu

The Most Reverend Dr. Desmond Mpilo Tutu visited the Custom House, Cochin on 07-03-2013 for a one-one-one interaction with the officers and staff. Dr. Tutu is in Cochin in connection with the ‘Semester-at-Sea’ programme of the Non-Profit Institute for shipboard education in association with the University of Virginia. The Nobel Laureate addressed the staff who had turned out in strength for the occasion. He recalled with gratitude India’s support to the South Africans in their struggle against apartheid. He stated that he was much disturbed on hearing news from various quarters regarding atrocities committed against women. He also warned the listeners that a society that did not value its women folk was doomed to fail. He exhorted everybody to be on guard against this disturbing development. He then fielded a few question from the audience with his characteristic verve and humour. He was later presented with a memento by the Chief Commissioner of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax, Kerala Zone Shri S Subramanian and Commissioner of Customs Dr K.N. Raghavan. Ms Elsi Thomas, Additional Commissioner delivered the vote of thanks.
